Linya-Linya strengthens community-driven initiatives with launch of “Tulong-Tulong” at Linya-Linya Land 2023
Aside from showcasing music, comedy, and arts at the multi-format festival, the witty t-shirt and content creation company aims to provide a platform for their partner organizations to educate the public about their advocacies and causes
Along with the country’s top musicians, comedians, and artists, Linya-Linya will be bringing its partner organizations to Linya-Linya Land 2023 where they will be given a space to inform and educate the public about their causes, get donations for their beneficiaries, and recruit volunteers for their projects.
Best known for its witty and punny Filipino lines on shirts and content, Linya-Linya has long been doing its part to put smiles on its partner organizations through “Tulong-Tulong,” a program for all of the brand’s outreach efforts. Currently, Linya-Linya partners with several organizations that cover advocacy on education, equality, and animal welfare, including: AHA! Learning Center, Angat Buhay Foundation, Mindanao Pride, Love Yourself PH, and Pawssion Project.
Through selling of select shirts and other merch, Linya-Linya is able to provide funds and awareness to help the said organizations. Linya-Linya’s Creative Director Ali Sangalang explains the importance of extending a helping hand to amplify the messaging of the cause. “Bilang mga Pilipinong humaharap sa iba’t ibang hamon sa panahon ngayon, mahalaga ang tulong. Pero ang totoo, mas malakas at mas epektibo kapag tulong-tulong tayo.”
Tulong-Tulong started at the height of the pandemic, during the time when frontliners and families-at-risk were in need of medical-grade supplies. To extend help, portions of the sales of selected Linya-Linya shirts were donated to Frontline Feeders PH, AHA! Learning Center, and Life Cycles PH.
With the success of this simple gesture to help the
people in need amidst the pandemic, Linya-Linya strengthens the initiative by
giving shirts to students, mothers, and teachers from AHA! Learning Center and
helped in renovating the Angat Buhay Community Learning Hub in Area 17, UP
Campus, Quezon City.

Apart from these, the shirt company will also be bringing Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation as a new partner– a non-stock, non-profit organization that aims to educate the Filipino nation and spread awareness in maintaining democracy, ensuring justice, and always in pursuit of truth.
Celebrating Filipino talent and supporting local
artists has been a part of Linya-Linya’s advocacies. Alongside the celebration
of these collaborations, attendees are up for a special treat as Linya-Linya
launches new limited edition shirts in collaboration with “Bawat Daan” singer
Ebe Dancel and the classic and iconic comic artist Pol Medina, Jr.
The upcoming limited
edition “May the PORK be with you” collab shirt with Pol Medina, Jr.
Aside from the performances and other activities at
the event, the shirt company will hold a Super Sale where attendees can avail
shirts and other merch for as low as P188.
Linya-Linya Land 2023 will be happening on August 26, 2023 at 123 Block in Mandaluyong City. Presented by Linya-Linya and GNN Entertainment Productions, the annual event takes hilarious puns to an exciting new level with its showcase of multi-format headliners that aim to create an integrated experience for the community and the fans.
This year’s edition marks an impactful comeback with a lineup featuring some of the most notable names in music, comedy, and art. Filipino singer-songwriters and bands Ebe Dancel, Johnoy Danao, Nica Del Rosario, Cheats, Autotelic, and DJ Ayel lead the bill, alongside standup comedians Victor Anastacio, Nonong Ballinan, GB Labrador, James Caraan, and Jeleen Cubillas. Completing the non-performing headliners are some of the most acclaimed and established talents in Philippine art: Manix Abrera, Rob Cham, and Pol Medina Jr., whose work will be exhibited at the ‘art’ market; and muralists/illustrators Panch Alvarez and AG Saño, who will be bringing uniquely infused art experiences to life.

Stream/download JVKE
“golden hour (SB19 Remix)” HERE
Produced by JVKE, “golden hour” is a
classic love song that highlights his ability to articulate the feelings of
romance and beauty through his lyrics. The vivid imagery is backed by a complex
instrumental arrangement of a piano and strings that builds throughout the
track. The remix of "golden hour" combines SB19’s incredible vocal
harmonies with JVKE's trademark production style, creating a stunning new
bi-lingual version in Filipino and English.
On the release of “golden hour”, JVKE
shared, “This might just be my
favourite song i’ve ever written. It feels like a pause in time, with all your
attention on that special someone. the sun is shining... it’s your golden hour.
I wanted to capture the emotion that you feel when you see something beautiful.
That feeling is golden hour.”
Speaking on the remix SB19 noted, "It’s always
fun collaborating with another artist - just like how it is when we, as members
of a group, collaborate with each other. But it’s something else when there’s a
collaboration of two cultures, which is what happened when we collaborated with
JVKE. It’s really special how the embedded culture in each of us affects how we
write songs and how we portray our experiences in a song, and we’re glad that
we’re able to include some parts of our Filipino culture in this song.
JVKE added, “SB19 are crazy talented. As an artist, when I open
my art to others so they can add their own interpretation, I never know how im
going to feel about what they contribute. With SB19, I was just blown away. I
hope this isn’t that last time we work together.”

Pinoy rock queens Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal, Aia de Leon, Acel, Lougee Basabas-Alejandro, and Hannah Romawac release “Talinghaga,” their first single as a group
The star-studded collaboration reflects on their
respective experiences finding God and walking with Him in faith
After staging a sold-out concert last
year at the Solaire Theatre, Pinoy rock queens Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie
Nadal, Aia de Leon, Acel, Lougee Basabas-Alejandro,
and Hannah Romawac continue their collaborative streak with the release
of “Talinghaga,” their
first single together as a group.
Released under WATERWALK RECORDS,
a music label focused on bringing fresh Christian music to a new, streaming
generation, the praise anthem narrates their individual experiences walking in
faith with God and finding him even in the most tumultuous of times.
Buoyed by ethereal melodies, rousing
arrangements, and lush vocal harmonies, “Talinghaga” highlights the group’s
individual and collective strengths as singer-songwriters. The acclaimed and
award-winning artists behind the song proved that they’re a sum of some very
strong parts with a team-up that is a first-rate of its kind.
The track is produced by Jarlo
Bâse, a fellow musician and singer-songwriter who has worked with Barbie
recently on “PIRASO.” Emil Dela Rosa is also credited as the song’s mixing and
mastering engineer, while also providing additional bass.
Barbie Almalbis revealed that after
their Tanaw concert, the six of them began discussing writing music
together in one of their hangs. “Lougee had a ‘song start’ and we pretty much
finished the song in an afternoon. We just did some edits and added a few lines
through online collaboration, since Kitchie was already in Spain by then.”
Part of the recordings were done at
Barbie’s ‘makeshift’ home studio in Marikina, while Aia and Kitchie recorded
their parts in their respective abodes due to physical and scheduling
constraints. Thanks to the power of technology, the collaboration was made
possible, and enabled some of them to record just about anywhere.
Acel expressed gratitude for how the
collaboration went. Working with her closest friends in the music industry, the
Sulat hitmaker praised her contemporaries for making sure that
everyone’s suggestions were heard. “Each one of us shared our ideas, but most
of the actual words we chose to use in the song were from Lougee, Aia and
Barbie. The idea is centered on who God is in our lives.”
“Talinghaga” is out now on all digital music platforms via WATERWALK
RECORDS.

Clara Benin explores dreamier soundscapes on new album, befriending my tears
The Filipino
singer-songwriter teams up with acclaimed producers Sam Marquez, Tim Marquez,
Gabba Santiago, and The Ringmaster on this album about self-acceptance and
healing
Listen to the latest
single “imposter
syndrome”
Clara Benin
finds the courage to embrace self-acceptance in the face of adversity on her
sophomore studio album, befriending
my tears via OFFMUTE. The
introspective record serves as the follow-up release to 2020’s Fragments,
a 5-track EP that maps out different seasons of her life during the
pre-pandemic days.
According
to Clara Benin, that 9-track album takes listeners on a journey from the self
to the soul in the bid to love, lose, and grow as individuals.
“This
album’s lyrical theme is learning to believe in yourself,” Benin explains. “You
can surround yourself with all these people who love you and believe in you,
but if you don't love yourself and believe in yourself first, you're just going
to keep hurting inside. We all need to learn how to befriend our tears in order
to heal.”
Enriching
the shrewd sensitivity of her songwriting with dreamier, more expansive
soundscapes and a refreshing musical direction that leans toward emo-tinged
indie folk, the Filipino singer-songwriter collaborated with a variety of
producers whose credits one would normally see outside of the mainstream vault.
She enlisted producers such as Sam Marquez, Tim Marquez, Gabba Santiago, and
The Ringmaster to improve and interpret some of the demos that she has arranged
and produced herself.
“Working
on this record, I really learned how to be intentional with all the details and
elements of production,” Benin shares. “I wanted every song to sound new and
fresh to the listener’s ears, and I want the songs to not just have an
emotional impact but a visceral impact as well, which is what song production
can do.”
befriending
my tears is led by her latest single “imposter
syndrome,” which deals with self-doubt while
navigating through all the uncertainties in life. Produced by Sam Marquez (Ena
Mori, One Click Straight, Zild), the intricately detailed alt-pop jam is about
Clara Benin coming to terms with her own insecurities. The release of the song
is accompanied by a Josh Elefan-helmed visual that portrays Clara Benin as a completely
dissociated person, “rediscovering connection through a friend that reached out
to her.”
Other highlights in the album
include the Gabba Santiago co-write “small town,” (featuring Gabba
Santiago) and the rom-com-inspired tunes “blink” and “affable dork.”

Sambahan a worship-themed compilation album by WATERWALK RECORDS
The 11-track release is written and composed by worship leaders from various Christian congregations in the Philippines
WATERWALK RECORDS, a music label focused on
championing faith-based entertainment artists to the new, streaming generation,
has released a compilation album filled with strong declarations of faith,
worship, and love.
Dubbed SAMBAHAN, the new record compiles 11
inspirational tunes that are sung, composed, and produced by worship leaders of
different Christian Churches and congregations.
“SAMBAHAN is a compilation of original Tagalog worship
songs written and composed via the KONEKOLAB Worship fellowship of Church-based
songwriters, and interpreted by worship leaders,” says Jungee Marcelo, the label’s main
producer and A&R. “The concept was developed within the KONEKOLAB ‘worship’ endeavor —- a
convening of like-minded music
artists who ‘connect and
collaborate’ in an
unconventional lab setting.”
According to Marcelo, the songs were
pitched to WATERWALK Records, and eventually got the greenlight of the
executives. He considers the project a blessing as it is created for the sole
purpose of glorifying the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He reveals, “The plan is
to release one song every week in a compilation aptly entitled SAMBAHAN. Initially, it was dubbed as ‘Worship’ but Sony Music
Philippines head Roslyn Pineda thought it was better to come up with a project
title in Filipino since all the songs are in the local lingo. We ended up with
the nomenclature ‘SAMBAHAN’ which in essence has three distinct context
definitions: a. act of worship, b. communal worship, liturgy, c. a place of
worship.”
Marcelo, who also happens to be the
founder of KONEKOLAB, narrates that SAMBAHAN initially started when he posted
an invitation to a group of grassroots, Church-based songwriters back in
December 2022 for a collaborative take on a worship song. What was initially a
one-time endeavor grew into more work being submitted by participants in the
pool, with Marcelo having to filter the choices down to forty participants. The Lord, as Marcelo recounts, provisionally
led him to selecting 40 potential songwriters and divide them into 10 teams, 4
per team.
“The late evenings and early mornings of December were
invested in daily online songwriting collab-turned-mentoring sessions, a team
at a time, rotating in shifts,” he shares enthusiastically. “By the end of
December, the songs were finally completed --- praise God for His wisdom and
enabling.”
Containing music styles that naturally
complement each individual and communal preferences, SAMBAHAN features themes
that adhere to the overall concept of worship. The songs were produced by
Jungee Marcelo himself, and were arranged with each musician providing personal
inputs to enhance the overall sound texture of the material, resulting into a wonderfully
crafted piece of worship offering.
